May 2021 KnitCrate Review – This Suri Alpaca and Cashmere blend yarn is so smooth and luxurious!  Plus, don’t miss this exclusive coupon code, just for my readers.

KnitCrate is a monthly yarn subscription service, delivering high-quality, hand-dyed yarn to your doorstep.  They offer several different crates, with different types of yarn and projects. The crate shown in the video above is the KnitCrate Membership, which includes 2 skeins of premium yarn in the featured colorway, and 2 exclusive patterns (1 knitting pattern, 1 crochet pattern). All KnitCrates ship worldwide. Members also receive reward points and discounts towards future purchases.

Use Coupon Code “YAYFORYARN20” for 20% off your first KnitCrate.

Each month’s crate has a theme, and the theme for May was “Happy Little Skeins”.  This theme is inspired by peaceful landscape paintings.  There are usually 3 colorways available, but in this crate, there are 6!  I received a lovely lavender colorway called “Let’s Get Crazy”, and I love this soft, pretty shade!

The yarn is Audine Wools Chill, a smooth, luxurious, worsted-weight blend of Suri Alpaca and Cashmere.  This texture is a bit different from the animal fiber yarns I am used to.  Yarns like wool have a springy, crisp texture, and even though they can be very soft, tend to have some structure to them.  This yarn is soft and smooth, but very pliable and drapey.  It also doesn’t seem as fluffy as other types of animal fiber yarns I have tried.  Instead, the yarn strand is a bit more smooth and dense.

KnitCrate Extras

All KnitCrate subscriptions include a bonus item, and this month, it’s a pair of beaded stitch markers.  These are on a lobster clasp, so they can be clipped to your stitches in your project.  The ones I received have a large, translucent yellow-green bead at the bottom.

Patterns

The crate also includes a pattern booklet, including the patterns from the Membership crate and Sock Membership Crate.  These patterns are designed to work perfectly with the yarns in the crate.  The May booklet includes 1 crochet pattern (Arcade Slouch Hat) and 1 knitting pattern (Fallen Cowl) for the Membership yarns.  For the Sock crate, there’s a sock knitting pattern (Petal Socks) and a crochet sock pattern (Suzy’s Bloom Socks).

Thanks so much to KnitCrate for sending me this crate to review!  I’m excited to see how this yarn works up in a project.  🙂
