Brand-new changes are coming to the KnitCrate Membership… Plus, don’t miss this exclusive coupon code, just for my readers!
KnitCrate is a monthly yarn subscription service, delivering high-quality, hand-dyed yarn to your doorstep. They offer several different crates, with different types of yarn and projects. The crate shown in the video above is the KnitCrate Membership, which includes 2 skeins of premium yarn in the featured colorway, and 2 exclusive patterns (1 knitting pattern, 1 crochet pattern). All KnitCrates ship worldwide with free shipping and handling. Members also receive reward points and discounts towards future purchases.

Each month’s crate has a theme, and this month’s theme is “Calico”. All yarns for this month feature soft colors inspired by early summer. In the KnitCrate Membership for June, the crate includes 2 skeins of one of two different colorways: “Wee Violets”, or “Tiger Lily”, which I received.
The yarn is Vidalana Aloft, a soft, smooth, DK-weight blend of Merino Wool, Baby Alpaca, and Organic Cotton. It’s a chainette yarn, which means the plies of the yarn are not twisted together as normal, but machine-knit into a tiny i-cord, or chain. This adds visual texture to the yarn, and makes it very smooth. This yarn is nice and squishy, with a tonal, hand-dyed coloration. The Tiger Lily colorway is a soft, peachy orange, with light and dark tonal variations.
Starting in June, all KnitCrate subscriptions will include an extra. This is new, since we used to only get an extra for special occasions (like in the December crate) or one-skein crates (like March or May). The extra item for June is a retractable measuring tape, covered with cute printed fabrics that match the color theme. I know I will use this all the time, since I already have a similar measuring tape that I use for everything. I love the retractable ones, because you don’t have to roll them back up by hand when you are finished.
The crate includes a small pattern booklet, including the patterns from the Membership crate and Sock Membership Crate. This booklet contains 1 crochet pattern (Golden Afternoon Scarf by Susan Lowman), 1 knitting pattern (Rows of Lavender Shawl by Susan Lowman), and a sock knitting pattern (Whimsical by Kay Litton). I love all of the beautiful photos, patterns, and information in the booklet. We also got several downloadable bonus knitting patterns, including the Alma Shawl, Fruit Picnic Poncho, and Fruit Picnic Wrap, designed by Darya Reznik.
Custom Color Selection
Next month, KnitCrate is rolling out an exciting, new option — Customized Color Selection! Between certain dates in the month of June, members can now select a colorway family for their July KnitCrate yarn. There are several different color options: a warm-toned palette, a neutral / earth-toned palette, and a cool-toned palette. The colorway of yarn you receive will be determined by which palette you choose. Of course, you can still choose to be surprised every month with a different color, as usual. 😊 I love the surprise of getting a randomly chosen color, but I think this is a great option if you have specific color preferences.
Overall, I’m thrilled with the yarn I received this month, and everything that was included in my crate. I always look forward to getting my KnitCrate in the mail, and I think it will be even more exciting with the new extra in each crate. I haven’t decided what I’ll make with this yarn yet, but I can’t wait to find the perfect project for it!
Thanks so much to KnitCrate for sending me this crate to review!
